Fatal error: corrupt file name array

Hello,

I've been using Everything for some time now and I'm having an error with the latest (beta) version that I didn't get before. This is the error:

.\src\db.c(48177):_db_folder_update_complete(): Fatal error: corrupt file name array

This error comes up a couple of times a day and I'm not using the program when it happens. I assume it occurs during a Everything.DB update in the background.

I'm using version 1.3.4.680b (x64) (portable) with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit as an administrator with UAC off.

Let me know if you need any more info for debugging.

Thanks!
Pilvi

P.S. Amazing program. I feel lost (on my computer) without it.

If you enable UAC, does the problem persist?

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

The bug is indirectly caused by a folder being removed in a folder index.

It should be fixed in Everything 1.3.4.681b

There's still an issue here.

I'm working on a fix.

Turns out the path ordering was wrong when indexing a folder.

Should be fixed in Everything 1.3.4.682

Happy Monday,

I'm actually still having the same error. Can I help you debug by sending you the error log or perhaps my configuration file?

Thanks,
Pilvi

Please send the debug output.

Everything 683 also addressed another issue with path sorting which could cause this problem.

We're running 682 here on three computers and on two of them we removed a certain network drive from the Options/Indexes/Folders (we call it drive S) and have not had a crash since then. It's been almost two days. I just removed the drive from the third computer and we'll see what happens. Perhaps there is something corrupt about that network drive...?

I'll paste my error log below. It pretty much says the same thing over and over.

Code: Select all

7/25/14 3:02 PM: Everything 1.3.4.682b (x64): .\src\db.c(48178): _db_folder_update_complete(): corrupt file name array
7/28/14 6:56 AM: Everything 1.3.4.682b (x64): .\src\db.c(48178): _db_folder_update_complete(): corrupt file name array
7/28/14 9:00 AM: Everything 1.3.4.682b (x64): .\src\db.c(48178): _db_folder_update_complete(): corrupt file name array
7/28/14 9:27 AM: Everything 1.3.4.682b (x64): .\src\db.c(48178): _db_folder_update_complete(): corrupt file name array
7/28/14 12:50 PM: Everything 1.3.4.682b (x64): .\src\db.c(48178): _db_folder_update_complete(): corrupt file name array
7/28/14 2:12 PM: Everything 1.3.4.682b (x64): .\src\db.c(48178): _db_folder_update_complete(): corrupt file name array
Thanks,
Pilvi

Hi.

This error just started appearing for me. Unfortunately for you, I've been using Version 1.3.4.686 (x64), so I guess the fix isn't totally awesome just yet ;)

Please:
  • Exit Everything completely.
  • Delete your Everything.db in %APPDATA%\Everything
  • Restart Everything
I am looking into the issue...

If this issue is reproducible please send the debug output when the crash occurs.

.\src\db.c(5038): _db_ntfs_folder_remove(): Fatal error: folder name array corrupt

First time ever crash on this otherwise splendid program. Using latest version on 64-bit machine (Windows 8.1).
Solved it by running: everything -nodb -reindex

First I tried this command w/o -nodb, but got same error. I have no log (it happened in the background), but next time (hope not), I will supply error log.

Regards

Hello, I have the same problem, or at least I think so... I have a folder which contains files that are corrupted, so I cannot remove any of them. This folder is into an external usb hard disk. I tried to change attributes under Windows but no way, the only thing I remember is that i managed this folder with Everything but there were no error outputs during its use. Then, I tried to delete this folder (by pressing shift + canc) but 128 kb of files still remain as corrupted. I casually tried to move the folder into another one and this Everything error cropped up. So, do you think I'm in your same situation? Can you explain how did you fix it exactly?

This error has just started appearing on my computer - running Windows 7 Home Premium. The version of Everything is 1.3.4.686.x86. I tried reinstalling the program but this made no difference. I have been running Everything with no problems for some time until now.

  • Completely exit Everything.
  • Delete your Everything.db file in %APPDATA%\Everything.
  • Restart Everything.

Just had this error just after deleting 3-4 games from Steam, deleted the .db file and Everything™ is fine now. Thanks for the awesome tool!
