I notoced that this option is listed in the "install section", So when I set it on the command line everything.exe just seems start and end and there is no search window --- so does -noapp-data set a flag? if so, is it in the *.ini file? thanks

Guessing it is the (Everything.ini) setting,
app_data=

& would be the same as in the GUI,
Options | General -> Store settings and date in %APPDATA%\Everything
.

app_data key does not exist in the *.ini file

Maybe it does - if the above (GUI) setting is enabled?
(And then removed, altogether, if the GUI setting is disabled?)

-no-app-data

This command line option will disable "Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything"

Everything will exit immediately when used.
No search window will be shown.

When "Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything" is disabled, Everything will store settings and data in the same location as your Everything.exe

This setting is stored in the Everything.ini in the same location as your Everything.exe
This setting uses the app_data key in the Everything.ini (0=disabled, 1=enabled)

Please make sure Everything has write permission to the same location as your Everything.exe

This command line option requires administrative privileges.

Please make sure Everything can relaunch as admin.
