Windows 11 Unlicensed - requires sign in

Post by jack09342 »

Hi,
Hopefully this is an easy fix as I may have setting wrong.
After installing Everything and selecting which drives to index (I set this up during install with Administrator Rights (not Everything Service), when I search for a Windows file like .doc or.ppt, etc. and double click to open it, it launches the windows app and then asks me to sign in to MS Office and register (top of screen labels the app as Unlicensed product). I have an office 365 license already on this PC, and opening the files works fine from any File Explorer folder. Any suggestions appreciated :D

That is most likely the cause:
Your Office license is linked to your user account; not the administartor account. Applications started from the administrator account in Everything will also be running as administrator.

The solution is to install the sercice and no longer run as administrator:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything.
  • Uncheck Run as administrator.
  • Check Everything Service. (Please make sure this is tick-checked and not square-checked)
  • Click OK.
Restart Everything:
- right-click the Everything icon in the system tray
- Choose Exit
- Start Everything
