If 'resources' are used up, programs become squirrelly

Post by therube »

If 'resources' are used up, programs become squirrelly.
(just noting, because it happened, & presumably not related to Everything, per se.)

so i have various Everything instances open
1 instance, pictures, has 98 separate instances of IrfanView opened
as child processes of Everything
separately, i have 57 other instance of IrfanView opened
not as a child to any other process (well...)
[how that came about... ? maybe they were opened as children to earlier Everything
version & when i updated they lost their parent?]

(why, you might ask? well, why not, heh. [no other reason, other then i could do it])

anyhow, 98 + 1.

98+1. if i double click on a picture in Everything, it opens in IrfanView, so 98+1.

well, that +1 breaks things
things like right-click actions in Everything - & in IrfanView too, possibly in or at
least sometimes in other programs too (like Salamander [Yes]), & Alt+C (hotkey to CLCL
clipboard) also fails (& i'm sure more too)

close that +1 & all returns to "normal"
reopen, & again things break

so, i was thinking "gdi resources" or something along those lines, but nothing looks
untoward on that end (at least on the Everything end, & from what i can make of it)...

anyhow...

It looks like you don't run the x64 version of Everything.
This is a complete other world if your PC has a suggested amount of RAM

I don't.
In any case, not likely to matter, I'd think, because it is an issue of "resources" that were used up, rather then "memory" or OOM (out of memory-like) issues, & likely not even related to Everything.
