Searching for all large files by date

Post by whereditgo »

I did some searching on this forum for the answer to this but only came up with a topic on a search for jpg or a specific size but even this described a procedure I couldn't comprehend. In my case a video download was interrupted and I hope it's somewhere on the C drive. I don't know how to search for any large files in the last day. This happened to me some years ago and eventually I found it. It wasn't marked as video type file. Just a big file with some other file type ending which I then could change to mp4. Thanks for any help with this.

Please try sorting by size descending.

Please try including the following in your search:

dm:today
dm:last2days
dm:last3days
dm:last4days
...

Sorry. I'm pretty basic in my understanding. Could you say where I specify:

" dm:today
dm:last2days
dm:last3days
dm:last4days"

Thanks!

In the main search box.

Alternatively, please try the Advanced Search under the Search menu and set the date modified field.

Sorry, I'm not seeing anywhere to enter the date here or in normal search. Thanks

Aha! That's stumped me before. I guess I just didn't notice the scroll bar. Maybe the window should open more full screen to start. Anyway, many thanks. Now to look for that file!

Usually "Everything" is blazing fast but it seems to be hung up on scanning the C drive for a large file just for today which must be very few. I guess I've made a mistake somewhere but not sure where? I've noticed this before that it sometimes seems to get hung up on searching the C drive. I see the C drive is listed (along with the d drive for storage) under NTFS. Actually something else might be going on as I closed Everything but couldn't restart it. Then under task manager saw it listed 4 times under "background processes". I closed those and it restarted. Just now I restarted the PC but no change.
...a few minutes later I reset all to default and it came up with the file! Not sure where the exact problem was but thanks again for the help with this. Now I know more about the advanced search too!

Actually, as I look again at the menus and submenus I'm not remembering exactly the one I was in. It may have been under General and then Search. I clicked "restore defaults".

hung up on searching the C drive.
There's likely some program spamming your C: drive with changes which is filling up your NTFS USN Journal.
Everything will rescan your drives when the USN Journal is filled.

Please try sorting by date modified and from the filename try to determine the software making these changes.

I often see log files that get flushed to disk on every single write.
