Copy/Move as new name using right-drag

Post by meteorquake »

Another suggestion :)
Quite commonly I want to copy a file to a new place but under a different name (there may often be a file already of the current name in the destination folder too)
Currently you have to rename the file, drag it in, and rename it back again.
It would be quite handy if you could right-drag a file to a folder and as well as the existing "Copy here" and "Move here", have the options "Copy here (new name)" and "Move here (new name)" and it would ask for the new name in the process if those were chosen (providing the existing name for edit). Presumably it would only make frequent sense for one file (although strictly for multiple files <filename> could be offered and you then add prefixes or suffixes around)
There are only a couple of items presently on that menu.
Cheers, David

Everything uses the Windows Shell to show the Copy / Move here context menu.

Maybe there's a shell extension to do what you want already?

I will consider adding native support to copy/move here with a new name.
Thank you for the suggestion.
