Restore Defaults, should have a warning prompt

Post by therube »

Restore Defaults, in particular in places like Keyboard & Advanced, should have a warning prompt.
(Ask me how I know ;-).)

Let me clue you in.
Either, there is a bug in the program that inadvertently resets settings back to defaults, or, some person sitting behind a keyboard clicked a set of prompts that caused the settings to reset back to defaults. Heh.

(Import, looked to work fine to fix things, even without restarting)

Everything 1373
uptime: a week ago (10:03:57 AM 04/27/2024)
Mem 350 MB, Handles 711, CPU nil,

i LOST custom_open_command##
i thinking ALL setting were reset ?

(only thing i can figure)

i OPENED about:config [& /searched/ but made no changes, nor restarted or anything like that]

?

I WONDER ?
I WONDER if i hit, 'Restore Defaults' rather then 'Reset' ???

that would have done it, wouldn't it now?
given that would do it, regardless of whether i did it or not,
'Restore Defaults' definitely needs a [modal] WARNING message before accepting Apply

(heh, if i did that, that really stinks ;-))

I'll remove the Alt + R shortcut for restore defaults.

The two required actions (restore defaults + OK/Apply) should be enough to prevent most accidental resets.

It is unfortunate that the reset button is next to the restore defaults button in the Advanced page.
I'll look into a redesign here..

Everything does keep a backup of your settings.
To restore your settings from the last backup:
  • From the Tools menu, click Import and Export settings....
  • Check Import settings and click Next.
  • Click Browse....
  • type in the following address and press ENTER:
    %APPDATA%\Everything
  • Select your Everything.backup.ini and click Open.
  • Click Import.
  • Click Finish.

After you use about:config, Everything will watch your Everything.ini for external changes.
Did you see a "Reload configuration file?" message?

While I opened & searched through, I made no changes, nor did I "re-save" the file, so the Reload prompt would not apply.
(If changes were made, & saved, then yes, the Reload prompt does appear.)
