Listing files from a text file

Post by sk2107 »

Hello,

Is there a way to list only files listed in a text file, I mean if I have a text file which contains names of files with their full path, and those files to be listed with their full information (same as the option in Total Commander "@full path of the text file having the required list").

Best Regards

(Aside from the TC end, as I'm not familiar) but if you have a list of path+names (or list of names, or...), Copy them to Clipboard & Paste them into Everything (1.5, unsure offhand of 1.4).

So if you have a list of filenames:
  • C:\USR\abe\P\2P\touch_abc.bat
    C:\USR\abe\P\2P\xerox_ESC
    C:\USR\abe\P\2P\abc
    C:\USR\abe\P\2P\5748.CKA
    C:\USR\abe\P\2P\4629.eli.TXT.eli
    C:\USR\abe\P\2P\4536.eli.TXT.eli
    C:\USR\abe\P\2P\4486.eli.TXT.eli
    C:\USR\abe\P\2P\4463.eli.TXT.eli
    C:\USR\abe\P\2P\SEC1031.TXT
    C:\USR\abe\P\2P\VAC1031.TXT
    C:\USR\abe\P\2P\cda.linda
    C:\USR\abe\P\2P\xxx.txt.sheronda.compliance
    C:\USR\abe\P\2P\OWNAP.1081.TXT
    C:\USR\abe\P\2P\BCI.PUR.SAF4BOB
    C:\USR\abe\P\2P\BCI.CHECKS.SAF4BOB
    C:\USR\abe\P\2P\COMPUTER.CHECKS.TXT
    C:\USR\abe\P\2P\px
    C:\USR\abe\P\2P\p
If you copy same & paste into Everything, you'll get names OR'd:
<C:\USR\abe\P\2P\touch_abc.bat|C:\USR\abe\P\2P\xerox_ESC|C:\USR\abe\P\2P\abc|C:\USR\abe\P\2P\5748.CKA|C:\USR\abe\P\2P\4629.eli.TXT.eli|C:\USR\abe\P\2P\4536.eli.TXT.eli|C:\USR\abe\P\2P\4486.eli.TXT.eli|C:\USR\abe\P\2P\4463.eli.TXT.eli|C:\USR\abe\P\2P\SEC1031.TXT|C:\USR\abe\P\2P\VAC1031.TXT|C:\USR\abe\P\2P\cda.linda|C:\USR\abe\P\2P\xxx.txt.sheronda.compliance|C:\USR\abe\P\2P\OWNAP.1081.TXT|C:\USR\abe\P\2P\BCI.PUR.SAF4BOB|C:\USR\abe\P\2P\BCI.CHECKS.SAF4BOB|C:\USR\abe\P\2P\COMPUTER.CHECKS.TXT|C:\USR\abe\P\2P\px|C:\USR\abe\P\2P\p>

(Depending on list size, it might be a bit timely, as the search potentially isn't particularly efficient.)

Thank you for your reply.
Actually I know this method, but sometimes the list is a bit long that It will take time to load into clipboard.

Two further variants.

Menu "File" > Open File List... >
- File type: TXT Text Files (*.txt)
- File name: E.g. Listing files from a text file.txt
------------------------------------------------------------
Menu "Search" > Advanced Search... > Search for a list of filenames: > ... Open the List Editor. > Import...
- File type: File Lists (*.csv;*.efu;*.txt)
- File name: E.g. Listing files from a text file.txt
OK > OK.

Another option is file list slots.

Include the following in your search:

filelist1:

Hold down Ctrl and click the filelist1: text in the search box.

Paste your filenames, or import them from a file list.
Click OK.

This method avoids polluting your search box with as really long list of filenames.
