Subdirectories are not searched; integration of box

Post by Twixt »

Hello,
I use everything to find files in all our network drives.
These drives are mapped like this: w: --> \\euaacfs01\department01
and x: --> \\euaacfs01\department02
(just like it is normal under windows)
In everything I mapped these dricves with (in menu) extras --> settings --> database --> files --> add | w: and x:
I have full access to both of them
But everything finds files in one of these two folder only in the main directory - in the other devicers in all subdicrectories, too.
Has someone an idea what the problem coud be in this case?
(There is no hint "updating" in the files windwow)

My second question concerns microsoft box online folder. Does anyone know, how I can add box folder (and the files) to everything?

Thanks in advance
Twixt

Everything will not be able to see your w: or x: drive if Everything is running as administrator.

Please make sure Everything is installed correctly and running as a standard user:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the General tab on the left.
  • Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything.
  • Uncheck Run as administrator.
  • Check Everything Service. (Please make sure this is tick-checked and not square-checked)
  • Click OK.
  • Exit Everything (right click the Everything tray icon and click Exit).
  • Restart Everything.

Please make sure you are not excluding subfolders under Tools -> Options -> Exclude.
Please make sure you are not excluding hidden/system files/folders under Tools -> Options -> Exclude.

Please try adding your box folder as a folder under Tools -> Options -> Folders.

Hello,
thanks for your reply .
Everything is not running as administrator - because I`m using it as a "normal" client in our company without any administation rights.
(nevertheless, I checked it in the setting oncemore)
All settings are configured as you described it.

There are no excludes subfolders / hidden files/folders or something else as I just mentioned in my question - I`ve full access to them.

Do you have any further ideas?

Thanks

Please try the Everything 1.5 alpha.

Scanning folders with Everything 1.5 will be more resilient.

If the issue persists, could you please send some debug output:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, under the Debug submenu, check Start Debug Logging.
  • From the Index menu, under the Rescan submenu, click w:
---Wait for Everything to rescan your w: drive -progress is shown in the status bar.
  • From the Index menu, under the Rescan submenu, click x:
---Wait for Everything to rescan your x: drive -progress is shown in the status bar.
  • From the Tools menu, under the Debug submenu, check Stop Debug Logging.
---This will open your Everything Debug Log.txt in Notepad.
  • Could you please reply with the debug logs? -the debug logs will contain any error codes from FindFirstFile..

Hello,
I wanted to give a short interim report herewith. Currently the new program-version 1.5a is still indexing the files in our network - I guess this will take another day or two. But it looks like the problems are solved. Also the integration of "Box" seems to work.
I'll get back to you as soon as the indexing and a test phase with the new version is done.

Hello,
here is an intermediate status with the new version 1.5.0.1354a.
We have in our network besides the local C-drive 5 server directories mapped as drives and for each user box. In total there are about 6.5 million files in this network according to Everything.
When I do a file search test in the morning, sometimes it has a whole mapped drive in the index - and I find the file - sometimes a mapped drive is missing. I could not recognize a system behind it yet.
With Box it is exactly the same. Sometimes it has indexed all files from Box and finds the desired file - sometimes not.
I'll keep watching; at the moment it doesn't work reliably in any case.

Thank you for your feedback Twixt,

Everything might be timing out when trying to access your box share.

Please try increasing the timeout limit:
  • In Everything 1.5, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Advanced tab on the left.
  • To the right of Show settings containing, search for:
    find
  • Select find_first_file_path_not_found_retry_timeout.
  • Set the value to: 600000
    (in milliseconds - 600000 = 10 minutes)
  • Select find_first_file_retry_timeout.
  • Set the value to: 600000
    (in milliseconds - 600000 = 10 minutes)
  • Click OK.
Please let me know if Everything continues to find no files in your network share.

Everything will likely be unable to access the mapped network drive if running as administrator.

[Administrator] is shown in the window caption if running as administrator.

Please check debug logs:
  • After you notice your mapped network drive is missing:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, under the Debug submenu, check Start Debug Logging.
  • Please try rescanning your mapped network drive:
  • From the Index menu, under the Rescan submenu, click your mapped network drive.
  • Wait for Everything to rescan this folder.
  • Progress is shown in the status bar.
  • Is the mapped network drive still missing from your index?
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, under the Debug submenu, click Stop Debug Logging.
---This will open your Everything Debug Log.txt in Notepad.
  • Please look for the following useful lines:
    FindFirstFileEx <error-code> <path>
    FindNextFile <error-code>
    Are any error codes reported?

Hello,
thanks a lot for further tips.
I increased the two values of "find_the_file...:"
and I checked once again that all settings has been configured correctly (what I could confirm).

Now, I started the debug mode and wait for finishing the process

new intermediate status: I have now started the debugging again and run a re-scan for Z. After that I stopped the debugging - even if it was not finished yet. Still not a single file from drive Z is included / listed / indexed in 'Everything'.

Could you please send a copy of your Everything Debug Log.txt to support@voidtools.com

Debug logs will help locate the issue.

Thank you for the debug logs.

Everything is taking too long to index your network shares. (roughly 1000 files per minute)
Everything never finishes scanning one of your network drives.
Everything has never scanned your box drive as it gets stuck on the previous network drive.

Typically, Everything should index 1,000,000 files per minute.

Please try the Everything Server.
Try to get the Everything Server as close to the file server as possible for the best performance.
