View results only. Mode, or secondary app.

Post by Crohnus1965 »

I have a few co-workers that could benefit from finding specific locations for files, with a quick search, they can see the path. Instead of making phone calls and emails to other people to find those locations. This is a multi-benefit, as some files are specific to location other than main building. And some files are tied to po#s, and once sent to a machine for production, they can see the path or machine name, or po# on the file name for what machine it went to.

My suggestion is, have a passworded mode, where one could setup the folders it searches and lock all other features from the program itself.
as in, add folders, open path, open file. To prevent possible deletion or manipulation.
or a standalone program, that has minimal search, of directories, folders, drives specified by a admin and is a view only type application for a user.

User gets a search bar and can only see the results.

You'll be able to lock down Everything 1.5 with group policies.

However, this might be overkill.
Instead, please consider the HTTP server.

This will give the user the option to perform a search, view the results and be unable to make any changes to your system from a web browser.
You can also disable download support if you just want to provide a list to the user without access to the file data.
