Preview panel (help me)

Post by kiszeramera »

In Everything, Windows Media Player appears in the right preview panel for video files. There used to be a picture (jpg?) from the video files. And always a preview of the first video file. Some program messed it up. I want a picture from the video to appear in the preview panel on the right when I clicking on the video file in the left panel. I already tried to reinstall everything but it didn't work. Please help me restore it. Thanks

Please try disabling the preview handler for mp4 files:
  • From the Start menu, search for: regedit
  • Right click Registry Editor and click Run as administrator
  • In the Registry Editor, navigate to:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mp4\ShellEx
  • Rename the following key on the left:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mp4\ShellEx\{8895b1c6-b41f-4c1c-a562-0d564250836f}
    to:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mp4\ShellEx\_{8895b1c6-b41f-4c1c-a562-0d564250836f}
    Note the underscore (_) added to the start of the {...} text.
  • Exit the Registry Editor (File -> Exit)
Everything and Windows Explorer should now use the thumbnail for the preview.
