Stuck sorting names on start.

Post by SafetyCar »

Hi, I saw there was a new version and decided to update but I found an issue.

On version 1.4.1.895 there's no problem but on 922 and 924 there is. Everything gets stuck at start, and the last thing I see in the status bar is something like -sorting filenames-.

Seems to be related to a config change about not removing offline volumes automatically. I did a try mounting the volume and it didn't get stuck.

Also startup is quite slow compared to 895 maybe related to the problem above.

926 doesn't fix it either. 895 is still the last good one for me.

But I also haven't updated windows 10 because it fails everytime. I tried several solutions and I checked and uninstalled drivers and such, but still, last time I updated windows I had to format the drive and I'll have to do it again this time it seems... Sigh.

Please try deleting your Everything database:
  • Completely exit Everything.
  • Delete your %LOCALAPPDATA%\Everything\Everything.db
  • Restart Everything.
Have you set any exclude options under Tools -> Options -> Exclude?

I haven't set exclude options and what I did was a force rebuild, from fresh I restarted and it went ok but I included the offline files and restarted and it triggered the problem again.

A force rebuild can still use an existing index for offline volumes which is where the problem might be..

Could you please send some debug information:
  • Completely exit Everything.
  • Open your %APPDATA%\Everything\Everything.ini
  • Change the following line:
    debug=0
    to:
    debug=1
  • Save changes and restart Everything.
  • After Everything appears stuck..
  • What is shown in your debug console? Could you please send this to support@voidtools.com

I've sent the email with the log and some details I thought convenient.
