Tools | Options | Results -> Hide results when the search is empty

Looks like the Everything database is busy.
The result list will not render until the database becomes ready.
What does the status bar say?

Everything seems to be very slow, but it will only stabilize after half an hour of running the application. That's why I need to use MasterSeeker when I want to search for something faster.
