Empty search result (0 objects) for any search

Post by jhertel »

More than once I have experienced that Everything 1.3.4.686 (x64) shows an empty result list no matter what I search for.

It also happened now.

Facts that I have checked are true:
  • This happens no matter what I search for.
  • The result is empty even if I turn off the option "Hide search results when the search is empty" and the search is empty (I search for nothing).
  • The C drive, which is the system drive, is activated for searching, included in the database, monitored for changes, using NTFS, and USN Journal is enabled for it.
  • The Everything service is running.
  • I am using the Everything service for searching.
  • Match path is on.
  • Match case is off.
  • Match whole word is off.
  • Match diacritics is off.
  • Enable regex is off.
  • Search | Everything is selected.
  • Restarting the service had no effect – still an empty result list no matter what I search for.
Finally, restarting the Everything user interface triggered a new scanning of the C drive, and only after that it worked.

Can this be anything else than a bug?

This is an old thread, however, please try forcing a rebuild:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Indexes tab on the left.
  • Click the Force rebuild button.
  • Click OK.
To restart Everything:
  • right click the Everything system tray icon and click Exit.
  • Restart Everything from the start menu shortcut, desktop shortcut or quick launch shortcut.
Please try the Everything 1.4 beta:
http://www.voidtools.com/downloads/

Everything 1.4 fixes the empty database issue in Everything 1.3.
