Common Issues

Everything does not remember settings

This can occur if Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything is disabled and Everything does not have permission to store files in the same location as your Everything.exe.

Please make sure Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything is enabled.

To enable Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu click Options.
  • Click the General tab.
  • Check Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything.
  • Click OK
Everything only finds drives or Everything does not find anything

Everything requires administrative privileges for low level read access to NTFS volumes.
Please make sure you Install the Everything Service or run Everything as Administrator.

To install the Everything service after Everything is installed:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu click Options.
  • Click the General tab.
  • Check Everything Service.
  • Click Apply.
  • Click the Indexes tab.
  • Click Force rebuild.
  • Click OK

To install the Everything service before Everything is installed:
  • From the Everything installer, make sure Install service is checked.
To run Everything as Administrator:
  • Right click an Everything shortcut.
  • Click Properties
  • Click the compatibility tab.
  • Check Run this program as an Administrator.
  • Click OK.
