When a drive letter is replaced / changed, e.g. D: to F: while Everything is running, does Everything notice that and change the volume label or does it just add a new volume and keep the content of D:?

Everything identifies volumes by a unique GUID, and will notice the volume has moved.

Everything should perform a reindex to resort its database.
This will remove the old D: index and add the F: index.

But what was the reason then - sorry, I have asked something similar some time before, but forgotton reason - that I have so many D:, E: drives here in the indexes:

Everything is seeing this volume as a new volume every time it is inserted.

Windows manages volume GUIDs. In theory this GUID should remain the same for the same drive.
It looks like the GUID is changing for the same drive for you.

You would have to manually remove offline volumes.

No, I don't. May be the same make and models have the same GUID (but that would not be unique, I guess)? E.g. 3 WD MyBook have they same one? Very strange.

If I remember correctly, you have (way) more disks than there are letters in the alphabet.
So driveletters have to be re-used, starting with the "lower" ones in the alphabet.



Something to consider (I might have mentioned this before):
Instead of giving each disk a drive letter, you can also "mount" them in your C:-drive, like this:
(where "Some Name" is a good description of the external disk, but don't make it too long )

No no, respectively I only use the bigger drives so there are enough letters for them. I do not use the older drives anymore.

Many thanks for the gif! So I would have to do it once for each drive or the ones I want to mount in the future. And after I just can plug them in and they are recognized (automatically mounted) like a drive plugged in as usual? Nothing more to do. And the drives work like usual.
And if I change the Notebook, computer I would have to do it again (like I would have to assign all the drive letters again for normal use). There is no method to save the data and export them to the next computer, I assume.

Easy identification of Disks in Everything. Instead of e:\folder\file, you now have c:\external\Backup1\folder\file so you know file is on Backup1 disk.

I'm no specialist in this area - by far - but I use voidimageviewer (yes, that is "our" void ) and Irfanviewer to display images.
Voidimageviewer has options to step through animated GIF's (under Menu:Animation).
Download the portable version of voidimageviewer.exe; download the GIF and drag it to voidimageviewer. That should do the trick.
Don't know if Irfanview has similar possibilities (couldn't find them).

Those are for slideshows. use Ctrl-Space , Shift-Right , etc. from the Animation menu.

Media Player Classic (both MPC-BE & MPC-HC) will allow you to pause/step through the .gif.
