Since the performance of filters has significantly improved I will continue to expand these lists.

To add to your filters:
  • In Everything, from the Search menu, click Organize filters....
  • Select the filter to edit.
  • add a semicolon (;) and your extension to the search, for example:
    ext:doc;docx
    to:
    ext:doc;docx;txt
  • Click OK.
  • Click OK.

Filters will be assigned default macros eventually.
For example audio: for the audio filter.
You can then search for audio:foo or !audio:foo for negative filtering.

It'd be nice to be able to add/edit custom filters.

You can.

Everything Options | Filters -> New.
And once a filter is highlighted, you can modify its' search items.

(It looks like a Filter drop down selection takes precedence over a filter keyword: on the search line <such as folder:>.)

Selecting the filter from the search menu or filter tool band will always take precedence over a filter macro/keyword.

I've found two times the same filter shortcut:
Recent --> ctrl-8
Video --> ctrl-8

I added a new filter: ONLY Files (!Folder:)
but it seems not to be possible to add a shortcut for new filters isn't it?

I've found two times the same filter shortcut:
Recent --> ctrl-8
Video --> ctrl-8
This is a conflict with the latest alpha and an older alpha version with out the recent filter.

Click the restore defaults button in the keyboard page to fix the problem.

Since the built-in filters are undergoing some tweaking, shortcuts will likely change and introduce some conflicts from your save settings in alpha release.

Pressing Ctrl + 8 in this case should execute the first command only.
I added a new filter: ONLY Files (!Folder:)
but it seems not to be possible to add a shortcut for new filters isn't it?
Use the Search.Filter01 - Search.Filter24 commands.
Search.Filter01 will match the first filter in the list.
Search.Filter02 will match the second and so on.
I am considering adding keyboard shortcut customization for each filter in the filter tab.

Hi, I'm a bit late to this page but am a recent convert to (and evangelist for) VoidTools Everything...
My suggestions:
(a) add ".MSG" (ie, an Outlook email message saved to drive) to the "DOCUMENTS" filter
(b) take ".DOT", ".DOTM", ".DOTX" and ".WIZ" out of "Documents" and create a new "Templates" filter
(c) add ".UCB" (ie, macros for batch runs for RoadKil Unstoppable Copier) to the "Executable" filter.

Or alternatively put a button somewhere for the user to customise the extensions assigned to each filter? (Apologies if this already exists... I've looked long and hard and can't find it!).

Kind regards

Thank you for your suggestions TomR,

I will consider adding msg, dot, dotm, dotx, wiz amd ucb to the default filters.

Fow now, to add to your filters:
  • In Everything, from the Search menu, click Organize filters....
  • Select the filter to edit.
  • add a semicolon (;) and your extension to the search, for example:
    ext:doc;docx
    to:
    ext:doc;docx;txt
  • Click OK.
  • Click OK.

video= .trp

I made a separate thread for this, feel free to delete that other thread, I didn't realize this had it's own thread to contribute to.

edit: just read the instructions from the post below, thank you! Didn't know this was possible.

Thank you for your trp suggestion vampgaze,

I will consider adding the trp extension to the default video filter.

For now, to add trp to your video filter:
  • In Everything, from the Search menu, click Organize filters....
  • Select Video and click Edit....
  • Change the Search from:
    ext:3g2;3gp;3gp2;3gpp;amv;asf;asx;avi;bdmv;bik;d2v;divx;drc;dsa;dsm;dss;dsv;evo;f4v;flc;fli;flic;flv;hdmov;ifo;ivf;m1v;m2p;m2t;m2ts;m2v;m4b;m4p;m4v;mkv;mp2v;mp4;mp4v;mpe;mpeg;mpg;mpls;mpv2;mpv4;mov;mts;ogm;ogv;pss;pva;qt;ram;ratdvd;rm;rmm;rmvb;roq;rpm;smil;smk;swf;tp;tpr;ts;vob;vp6;webm;wm;wmp;wmv
  • to:
    ext:3g2;3gp;3gp2;3gpp;amv;asf;asx;avi;bdmv;bik;d2v;divx;drc;dsa;dsm;dss;dsv;evo;f4v;flc;fli;flic;flv;hdmov;ifo;ivf;m1v;m2p;m2t;m2ts;m2v;m4b;m4p;m4v;mkv;mp2v;mp4;mp4v;mpe;mpeg;mpg;mpls;mpv2;mpv4;mov;mts;ogm;ogv;pss;pva;qt;ram;ratdvd;rm;rmm;rmvb;roq;rpm;smil;smk;swf;tp;tpr;ts;vob;vp6;webm;wm;wmp;wmv;trp
    (Note the addition of ;trp at the end of the search)
  • Click OK.
  • Click OK.
