Eagerly Awaiting FAT/FAT32. Great Program!

Everything Search is such a needed program that everybody should have.

One thing I might suggest is that there be an option for it to not necessarily create a new database quite so often. Mine seems to do that almost every time the program is run, and since I have some major HDDs to index, it does take quite a long while. I'd like to see an option for it to only create a new DB when there are very significant changes, or perhaps add to the original more rapidly, if applicable, rather than start all over again. That would probably take some major programming though.

I am about 1/3 NTFS, about 1/3 FAT16 and 1/3 FAT32, by necessity, due to the processes I must run. (Game Programmer), So, needless to say, I am really looking forward to the new release where FAT is included. Even if its a Beta version.

Great work and thanks for what I believe will turn out to be a very helpful tool, and extremely popular.

Oh, and Boolean Search Options would be a great plus.

I.e. abc AND xyz NOT jibble.pr3 OR *kabo???.alt etc.

But that's probably a ways down the road yet.

I'm still trying to figure out features like Regex and the various Server options.

The current Font Adjustment is good too. Hey, its all good so far..

Thanks for your support.

"Everything" should only do a full index once.

Try increasing the size of the "USN Change Journal" for each volume.

To increase the size of the "USN Change Journal" for each volume:
  • In "Everything", from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Volumes tab.
  • For each volume in the Local NTFS volumes list:
    • Set the Maximun size to at least 32768 KB.
  • Click OK.
Oh, and Boolean Search Options would be a great plus.
See http://www.voidtools.com/faq.php#How_do ... _operators

For example:
I.e. abc AND xyz NOT jibble.pr3 OR *kabo???.alt etc.
abc xyz !jibble.pr3 | *kabo???.alt

Ohhhh. GREAT! Many thanks for the info.

I'll certainly give that a try. I'd love not to be indexing as much as it does.
But again, not to take anything at all away from a very useful program.
Any ideas about an approximate ETA on FAT support?

And about the Boolean search, that's very good to know too.
Somehow I Didn't realize that was already an option.

How can one find out more about things like Regex? So far that has escaped me altogether.
I searched the site a bit, but didn't really come up with a lot to explain things like that.
I may have missed it, if its there. Any plans for a Help file or a PDF in the future?

This looks like a good page, Regular Expressions - User guide or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regex.
Note there can be variances depending upon the particular engine used.

Thanks Therube.

Although more than the technical definition of the term, I was wondering how it is specifically implemented within Everything Search. That doesn't seem to be elaborated upon anywhere at the site, at least that I've been able to find. It probably is somewhere, but in digging around for it, I haven't had any luck so far.

The option says "Enable Regex" but what that means to the program isn't quite clear. At least not to me, as it refers to locating filenames. And being a programmer, that would probably indicate there are quite a few folks who use Everything, who are not quite clear on what its implied use might be. An example or two would be very welcome.

Then there are the various servers it refers too also. ETP/FTP/HTTP Servers.. I was looking for clarification on how that is implemented with regard to Everything as well.

Uh oh.. Did some site-searches and unless I'm missing something it seems FAT/FAT32 support is a consideration for the future, at some point down the road. But apparently not right away. True?

That's a shame. I love the program, and the re-indexing problem I had seems pretty much resolved. But being about half FATx by necessity, as are so many folks, I do need it to search "everything" on my systems.

I'll keep checking back in periodically and see where it stands.

Great concept in any case.

Just checking in to see if there is anything new on FAT/FAT32 Support with "Everything".

Great program as discussed before. But FAT/FAT32 is critical. Still in wide use for many folks. In my case two large volumes are FAT and FAT32.

I'm still having some problems with a long re-indexing cycle too though, even on NTFS volumes. I increased the Journal sizes, as suggested, and it seemed to help some for a little while. But it again usually indexes all volumes each use, seemingly without any way to know whether it will or not, which with anything 500GB or larger, gets quite long.

Perhaps Re-Indexing could be made to be on-demand or manually initiated, if so configured? Otherwise just use the existing databases, which may not have changed very much?

Also Regex and the Server options, (as it relates to this program) still isn't clear to me. So a Users Guide or Help File of some kind would be a huge plus.
