Yep, that would be great! I have not used it that often, but when it was painfull (open the symbols viewer from Microsoft, search the symbol and copy'n'paste it to Everything).

Hi, Meilon:

The link you told me that explains the trick to bypass Windows UAC has an error. Maybe it is old or it is moved.
May you, please, post here the necessary instructions to permit Search Everything bypass Windows UAC ?
Thanks,
Hugo

Here's a good one: http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/windo ... ows/?p=616

In figure F you point to the exe of Everything and use -startup as argument.

Hi Dave, sorry to add this request to your already long list but I think this feature is worth asking for.

Instead of saving the filter list within Everything.ini, I'd like an option to save each filter as a standalone file, which I can simply double-click to run.

For example, a custom filter will contain terms like:

"Aug 2010 Visa" and saved as a file.

Then this filter file is saved within the folder:
Budget > 2010 > August

This way, I can just navigate to the above folder and run the (filter) file to show the result in Everything.

If possible, can you please make the filter file editable (i.e. with Notepad) too.

The Filters list in Options is not an ideal solution to use in case the list gets too long.

Tested in v1.2.451a

Thanks again for the wonderful program!

While I haven't tried it ... Everything has a -config command line option:

Code: Select all
-config

Everything.exe -config <everything.ini>

Load settings from everything.ini.

So if you were to set up a file type association, say .eve, & that is set to run:

Code: Select all
Everything -config everything.eve

So you would place an specific everything.eve in each directory you wanted, & when clicked, would run Everything using that ".eve" (aka .ini) for that particular directory.

Appears you would need to pass the full pathname of the ".eve" file (or else it seems it will recreate it in the <perhaps> installation directory). Also you would need to shut down existing instance of Everything first.

@therube:
Thanks for the idea.

I've added the location of Everything.exe to Windows' PATH variable and created a simple BAT file with the following content:

Everything -search "Aug 2010 Visa"

:D

# localization for bytes, kb, mb, gb...

RFE (& not necessarily related to localization): For bytes, drop the word "bytes" entirely.
Simply show the number. Bytes should be implied unless noted otherwise (like KB, MB, GB). "bytes" (the word) takes a lot of screen space & is "ugly" (IMO).

Fixed for next release.
