Monitor Changes & enable USN Journal

I just downloaded Everything & find it amazing! I was using DirNow! for decades, and very happy with it, but it just quit in Windows 10.

Anyhow, I was wondering if it's advisable to uncheck monitor changes & uncheck enabling USN Journal. I primarily use Everything to open folders, so that I don't have to wade through a start menu. I don't make that many changes to my system & if I do, I was wondering if I could just manually update the database? When I used DirNow!, I would just update the database once a week.

I'm not quite sure why I would need either of those options, since it's so quick to create a database.
Thank you in advance!

The USN Journal is maintained by the NTFS driver.
Unchecking the USN Journal will be futile on Windows Vista or later, it is recreated on boot.

To disable real-time monitoring in Everything:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the NTFS tab.
  • For each NTFS volume:
    • Uncheck Monitor changes.
  • Click OK.
To force Everything to reindex:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Indexes tab.
  • Click Force Rebuild.
  • Click OK.
To index only folders:
  • In Everything, from the Tools menu, click Options.
  • Click the Exclude tab.
  • Change Exclude files to: *
  • Click OK.
