A fitting nickname you've got there. I'm not "harping" on it. Read the replies to my post. I'm not the one going "OMG MICROSOFT IS ASSHOLE ME NO WANT MICROSHIT ACQUIRE EVERYTHING". I've expressed my gratitude for "Everything" time and again on these forums. There is onl...

I'm totally agree with vegas , although all of us will celebrate future releases and updates everything works like a charm as it is now, there is no hurry at all. Otherwise just the idea of M$ taking such a great piece of free soft really depress me, I hope that never happen. My infinite thanks to ...

Re: "Everything" version 1.2.1.451a
Don't get me wrong, I don't mean to be a dick, but it's been ages since the last build came out. Not that I have any gripes with .451a, I haven't encountered any bugs, and the core functionality is there, but it'd love to see it improved. I remember you expressing your reluctance about releasing the...

Re: Keyboard shortcut for copy path to clipboard
Glad you like it, I'm going to use it myself. I don't get why no one showed any interested in such a functionality, it's pretty useful imho. Anyway, I'll work on the other script, but Autohotkey's acting up.

Re: Keyboard shortcut for copy path to clipboard
It's also possible to assign a different shortcut to launch the script, make the script wait till you press enter, and then do what the above code does. I use win+q to launch "Everything", the script would fire up the Everything window when win+j is pressed, wait for you to press enter and...

Re: Keyboard shortcut for copy path to clipboard
My previous script is available at the Authotkey forums: http://www.autohotkey.com/forum/topic41741.html Try the one I posted above, it's a lot more streamlined and much less error prone (after all, it's only copying the path, closing the Everything window and pasting the path in whatever textbox is...

Re: Keyboard shortcut for copy path to clipboard
The method you mentioned was actually easier to implement, and a little less crude compared to that of my previous script. Here's the code: #NoTrayIcon #SingleInstance #j:: ; The keyboard shortcut { SetTitleMatchMode 2 IfWinActive, Everything ; Runs only if Everything is the foreground window (If ti...

Re: Keyboard shortcut for copy path to clipboard
The shortcuts are mentioned are available in the latest beta: http://www.voidtools.com/Everything-1.2.1.451a.zip As for your plugin, it looks great. Although I think it would be better to just pop up the actual Everything window, then whatever you hit enter on there will be copied back. (Is that wha...

Re: Keyboard shortcut for copy path to clipboard
There's keyboard shortcuts, to copy the path and copy the full path&name, ctrl+alt+c and ctrl+shift+c respectively. There's also a keyboard shortcut tab in the options page where you can search for specific keyboard shortcuts. Btw, I wrote a script that provides the exact functionality you asked...

It could be that you accidentally turned on "Match whole word". Don't take it as an insult, sometimes it takes me a while to notice it =)

Re: "Everything" version 1.2.1.451a
I would rather see file & folder size indexing implemented first. Should be optional though, it would add a lot to indexing time. I wish everything were open-source, but then again, some projects don't get many contributors. You know David, you could actually sell Everything. It is probably the ...

Well, mounting as a virtual file is the simplest option I guess, if only I were proficient enough to write such a piece of software =(

Mounting split files
Split files are annoying. Having to merge them by rewriting all the data into a separate file is time consuming and I/O intensive. Would it be possible to either 1) mount split files as a virtual file/drive 2) join them by modifying mft entries, i.e. tack a part to the end the previous file ? To bet...

Re: Everything and SSDs
Uh, ssds wear out when you write on them. There shouldn't be any problems with indexing or using Everything. If you want to minimize writes to your ssd, move Everything to an hdd, and execute it from there. Regardless, write-related wear is not issue for the average user. You could never subject you...

Ditto, kudos to David. Hope new builds come out periodically.Boofo wrote:Thanks for the update, David. The update seems to have fixed the high CPU problem, so far, anyway. Excellent work, my friend.
Re: Beta News
Thanks a lot David, will check it out now.
Re: Beta News
Great! I wonder what exactly caused it though...
Re: Beta News
What I meant was when I execute a game/program (there's a lot of small file read-writes going on), Everything chokes the machine. Not only that, but loading a page in the browser triggers the same behavior.
I'll try everything -debug.

Still, thanks, David, for updating.

Re: Beta News
Uh, the latest beta seems be putting a considerable strain on the system.
I tried loading executables, and Everything choked the hdd with a lot of I/O. When I load/reload page in Chrome, Everything hits %60-70 cpu usage!
I presume this is because it tracks recent file changes/modifications/access?

Re: Beta News
Finally, updates =)
I couldn't get the filter bar to stick in previous versions, but it works fine now.
When I change a setting and apply, Everything seems to forget the hotkey to fire up the window.

Re: Search by filesize?
"Avafind" gathers file size information, and is a great piece of software. It lacks regexp searches and some more features, but it's still good enough. "Everything" takes less than 1 minute to index the 250k+ files I have, while "Avafind" takes about under 2 minutes, wh...

Give us an update, a new release, something!
For gods sake, it's been ages since you last updated the build. I know this is your project and I have no right to demand anything, but you could at least tell us how much progress you've made. Or, you could just release the source (not that it's guaranteed to do the project that much good, but this...

Re: Things to do
I'm curious what exactly do you mean by "(use mft for very fast sorts when sorting everything)"? Are you planning to implement file size indexing? This would slow down the indexing, but if left optional, would be great, especially for instantly viewing the size of folders. Whatever you do ...

Hey DAT,
interesting effort, i hadn't thought about such a technique. Tighter integration with save/open dialogs would be much better though imho.

David said he considered releasing the source. I agree that this would benefit the project greatly. What about ads? File name completion via hotkey
Hey David, hope you're doing well. I intended to make a feature request/suggestion, and ended up writing an autohotkey script demonstrating said feature (it's makeshift at best, but it works). I also recorded a screencast, for your convenience. Whenever I am at an "open file" dialogue, I f...
