I think the answer would be that it's personal preference. There are couple ways, and you nees to test and choose the way that is preferred and convenient for you, what suits your needs better.
You can have the output via the GUI and you can also have it via a CMD or a batch file.

I think that "search indicators" should not be in the status bar at all, but implemented somehow in the search box area.
All information about the search should be in one place - the search box area.

Make a backup of your filenames before doing anything from File -> Export. I'm not sure how it will help. How to restore?
