Re: Keep offline volumes in the index
[*]Offline indexes will be lost when the index is rebuilt. All volumes must be online when Everything builds its index.[/list] What exactly does "rebuild index" mean? I'm very confused. When does it happen? Every time Everything is started? In which case then how can there be such a thing...

Is there some benefit to running as administrator?
I disabled the User Account Control popup ("Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?") using the instructions below and wondering if there is some reason why I would want to run as administrator, and if so can I make it do that automatically every time i...

Re: Difference between offline volume and folder?
I am not sure I understand the question.. ...Monitoring changes to NTFS volumes is more reliable than monitoring changes to folders. Everything can miss changes to folders. I guess what I really meant to aks was, how should I index external hard drives that I only attach for a few minutes once a we...

Re: Difference between offline volume and folder?
Thanks. I haven't had a chance to dig into this as I am shuffling drive names around but it will be helpful.

Difference between offline volume and folder?
What's the difference between an offline volume and folder with a name like E:\ which is a whole drive? I think my problem with Everything showing multiple drives with the same letter, which I asked about in another thread , might be caused by two distinct issues: the drive letters themselves (addre...

Re: Use drive name for offline volume instead of drive letter?
Consider reassigning drive letters so they are unique for each physical device. OK thanks. If the letters stay permanently with the respective external drives I assign them to (which is beyond my level of understanding of how Windows identifies and manages drives), this should be okay. Will look in...

Use drive name for offline volume instead of drive letter?
Is there a way to make Everything use the name I've given to an offline volume and only that, instead of drive letters? I'm not getting how it's possible to use offline volumes at all without this capability, because the drive letters are being assigned randomly and changing everytime you attach a d...

Re: Is there a way to hide/unhide offline volumes at will? (while still offline)
To create a filter to exclude your D: drive: Filters can be activated from the Search menu, Filter bar (View -> Filters), right clicking the status bar, filter macro or filter keyboard shortcut. Thanks. That's exactly what I wanted; even better with keyboard shortcuts because for frequently-used fu...

Is there a way to hide/unhide offline volumes at will? (while still offline)
Is there a way to easily hide and unhide an offline volume, without it coming back online? In other words say my internal drive is C and I have an external drive D that I only connect once in a while. I have Everything set up to keep D in the index. I'd like to keep all its files hidden most of the ...
