Can I avoid killing the Everything Service every time I...?
I use the portable version of Everything 1.5, and since I'm a nerd for this software I like to download every new alpha version released, even if it's 3 or 4 per month. The thing is, every time I want to replace the old .exe file with the newest one, a Windows' dialog tells me that everything is run...

How do you tag with a background color? Tried to look for that feature but couldn't find it.

Hey @void, are you still considering this? I feel like a thumbnails + details view could really draw more people into the software, those looking to replace their file explorer

Was about to post something similar but I'll bump this one instead. Unrelated to winmm, it'd be cool to at least be able to control the play/pause of the preview with the spacebar.

Re: There's no way to AND filters with the sidepanel
Thanks, I changed the post title and content to reflect the actual issue.
Omit Results would work here but it's not as great as filters because it's easier to toggle the later with the filter sidebar.

There's no way to AND filters with the sidebar
I made a filter to temporarily omit a folder using !"D:/XYZ" as the search. I tried to combine it with the video filter holding down CTRL in the sidebar but it just ORs. It does work using macros names, e.g. typing "excFolderXYZ: video:" in the search bar. I'm using 1.5.0.1360a ...

Re: Thumbnails view with some properties
Not quite the same as a detail panel, my suggestion implies showing all files properties in a general view, without bringing focus on a particular one. Every property in a line break below the file's name.

Thumbnails view with some properties
I know that thumbnail view should be just that, but I would love to see some extra info in that grid format, not all properties like paths would look clean, but some like the ones I included in this example I made in 2 minutes with photoshop look compact and useful

Re: Does everything has a log of folder changes?
Lovely feature, but it logs literally everything, which I think is what most people using this feature wants, but is there an option to log only an specific drive or maybe omit certain folders? Most of the strings are windows files syncing or cache stuff from my browser.

Re: Does everything has a log of folder changes?
it may be worth setting up a separate, bare bones, instance of Everything just for the index journal. Why a separate one? I don't get that part. I've set the maximum size to 0, which doesn't, apparently, put a limit on the size of the index journal. @void do you confirm? I have a feeling it could b...

Distinguish *.ts files (video format vs typescript)
When I'm searching through my videos with the default video filter, my *.ts video files mix with those written in typescript, can Everything distinguish them by default so I can only see the real video files?

Thank you! I deactivated it, I guess I should delete the post?
Although, if it's a feature, not all mp3 files where playing on my testing, so I guess there's a bug there anyways

Everything starts playing mp3 files by itself
I don't know if it's a preview file feature, but it seems like a bug since there're no play/pause buttons anywhere. It happens just by clicking (just once, no double) in a row where there's a mp3 file on it. Edit: I did more testing, seems random, not all mp3 do it, maybe 50/50 but I can't find a pa...

[Suggestion] Jump to a good frame for video preview thumbnail
The default preview thumbnail for videos are from the first seconds of the file, making the preview mostly useless in cases where all videos have an intro https://i.imgur.com/fp1rQ4P.gif Is there any possibility to make an optional "extract a frame at 10% of the file for preview" or someth...

Re: Is it 'sort:size/length' possible in the future?
Another idea is to export the results with the Length and Size columns to CSV and use Excel to calculate and sort by the bitrates. That's my aproach right now, not ideal, things like time got exported as eg 40:36 and not as 00:40:36, so Excel automatically assumes it's 40 hours 36 minutes and 0 sec...

Re: Advanced Sort / Secondary Sort
Everything 1.5 Alpha introduces Advanced Sort Secondary sort wouldn't do much in this case, a folder filled with mp3 or mp4 rarely have files matching size or length. It would mostly be a primary sort, with just very casual secondary sort. However, your question actually seems like you might be try...

Is it 'sort:size/length' possible in the future?
The Idea is kind of excel-ish where you can make operations between columns, of course the only valid user case that it occurs to me is size/length, since something like sort:width*md5 makes no sense, but people can suggest more. In regards of size/length usefulness, imagine these as you files sound...
