Re: System Reserved partion full

Thanks raccoon, that's most likely the explanation, though I'll get him to check the contents the next time the issue arises.

FWIW Everything is stored in d:\local\everything and the checkbox for Store settings and data in %APPDATA%\Everything is not enabled.

Re: System Reserved partion full

The admin who deleted the files can't remember the specific content, except for the presence of a folder named Everything. Not sure if that relates to the USN journal, or if anything can be done if the journal is the culprit. The symptom is that the partition starts relatively empty but then fills o...

System Reserved partition full [resolved]

In the last 12 months, I've had cause to update Windows 10 to the latest version on two occasions. However, in both cases, it failed as the System Reserved partition was full, thereby preventing access by the OS during the update. Following Microsoft instructions on how to remove unwanted files and ...

Re: Service Account Security & End Users

There was no installation on the client PC (or mine for that matter). Just a separate copy of Everything.exe on each machine, which each user runs independently. You assumed I was talking about a single executable. Anyway, thanks for your contribution. It doesn't sound like it's an easily solvable p...

Re: Service Account Security & End Users

I think we're talking at cross purposes. The clients run their own local version of Everything.exe since they do not have access to the executable on the Server machine (my PC). Therefore, the "X:\path to\Everything.exe" can't work. Clients currently connect via Tools > Connect to ETP serv...

Re: Service Account Security & End Users

The client user just ran the Everything.exe on his machine then changed set Everything Options > Indexes > Database location to point at the publicly shared database.

To connect to my ETP server, the client ran Everything.exe then used Tools > Connect to ETP Server.

Re: Service Account Security & End Users

I don't think so. I run an ETP server that indexes network drives and anyone who access files via that server has access to any file I can view, even though their own access control permissions may forbid it. Which, although part of Everything's design, is obviously a security issue. Having individu...

Re: Service Account Security & End Users

As a workaround, is there anyway to share a central database so that users can see filenames but only actually access them if they have the necessary permissions? I've tried setting this up but adding the folder name containing the shared database in Options > Indexes > Database location, doesn't ap...

Re: Write index to disk

I've added an option for the next version to periodically save the index to disk. You will be able to disable this feature, or set how often Everything will save the index to disk. I am experimenting with the default of 24hours. However, there are some concerns with unwanted disk access. Is this in...

Too big - how many?
Are you using the current version of Everything?

Indeed, that would work but it would be good to have that functionality in the GUI.

Re: Write index to disk

It is better to revert to the last scan index rather than one which is several months old.
Also, in my case, the disk contains 7+ million files, is a network share and is not SSD.

Write index to disk

Would it be possible to add an option to automatically write the index to disk, either immediately after the scan or at a defined time interval between scans? Alternatively, an option from the drop down menu (or an icon) could be provided to allow the operator to manually write the index, without ha...

Re: When does the db file date change??

So does this mean that if the PC is left on for, say, 2 months, then crashes due to a power outage, Everything will revert to the 2 month old database when the PC is restarted?

Re: Wildcards aren't working?

@void
Thanks - this was the solution that worked for me on a recent installation.
Maybe it's worth switching that option off by default, as no matches when searching for string*string (rather than *string*string*) is not intuitive.

Re: FTP bounce vulnerability

Thanks.

I need to keep the FTP server running to answer requests from other users.

Will disabling the PORT command eliminate the vulnerability whilst allowing the FTP server to continue operating?
Or can it be configured to only allow other clients access to my server?

FTP bounce vulnerability

My installation of Everything, Version 1.3.4.686 (x64), has been flagged by as being vulnerable to the FTP bounce exploit. It is classed as "Severe".

Has this been fixed in later versions?

Re: Regex problem at start of line

OK. Thanks for the explanation. http://www.regular-expressions.info/charclass.html#negated explains the negated character class also matches line break characters and since (I presume) Everything doesn't consider these, it's a "gotcha" people need to be aware of. FTR The online evaluator a...

Regex problem at start of line

There appears to be a problem with using exclusion matches at the start of a regex query. Specifically, with regex enabled, searching for DR33 gives me the following matches: Quote GDR336.pdf Quote GDR337.pdf DR33075.pdf However, trying to eliminate those with G preceding the criteria by changing it...

Re: Problem using regex: syntax

Excellent, thanks very much for the clarification. That works fine.

To avoid confusion, maybe it would be worth adding a statement under the Regex section here:

http://www.voidtools.com/support/everything/searching/

to put all regex criteria in inverted commas whenever using the regex: prefix

Problem using regex: syntax

In v686, if I enable regex searches using Ctrl R, matches are correctly returned for regex criteria such as: 12(3|4)4 However, switching regex off and using the regex prefix, ie regex:12(3|4)4 it appears that the prefix is being ignored and returns matches no different from just using 12(3|4)4 I've ...
