Re: Search Syntax Help

I need to go through something similar to a de-duping process but without mirror duplicates. I just need to get rid of some obsolete versions. All the files I need to deal with are in directories of the same name, but on many different drives (some indexed by EFU, plus local drives in the regular DB...

Re: ETP non working

eagleeyez was referring to 1.4.0.713b which is available on the main download page. Needless to say, it's quite old.

A newer version than what we have would be called something like 1.4.2.768b if the .1 was to be incremented, as the build number will always increase.

Here are the latest versions: http://www.voidtools.com/Everything-1.4.1.767b.x86.zip http://www.voidtools.com/Everything-1.4.1.767b.x64.zip Save the link of whichever (x86, x64) you use. From time to time, paste the link and go up one or two numbers (768b, 769b, etc.) to get newer version. Keep goin...

First, David will be back (despite people like you). He takes breaks pretty much every year and he always comes back, and he'll continue developing the program that has saved me more time than any in my decades of computing. It's free, it's always improving between intermittent vacations, and it's o...

Re: EFU File List Help

Why a special extension (EFU) was chosen? What was the problem to use the familiar TXT file? The Windows System and People are already familiar with the TXT files (and CSV). Why does everyone have to relearn the meaning of this EFU extension? Isn't it the same thing/result? Umm, well, there's the f...

Re: EFU File List Help

I till use Cathy a bit, and while I use Everything far more (i.e. constantly), I think there's only one feature left missing that I really desire. I have an autoplay handler for Cathycmd that automatically creates a new catalog for Cathy whenever optical media is detected. The catalog name is that o...

Force loading of a foreign but legitimate database

I have an Everything.db from another PC from just before said PC's (soft)RAID array went batshit. I've since recovered the 8tb which became lost after the volumes were partially corrupted, but the recovery recovered a lot of deleted content that had recently been moved to other drives. The result is...

Re: Keep offline volumes in the index

Yes. I've been as clinical as I can possibly be I'm afraid. I'll try an entirely virgin setup sometime soon with strictly default settings, with the exception of keep_missing_volumes=1 of course. This is the last remaining feature I really need in order to replace Cathy entirely.

Re: Keep offline volumes in the index

I do have that setting disabled as I have a portable Everything (on a drive that is always live). I'm editing Everything.ini within my Everything directory, which is also where the db is (Database location path correctly points to it). This is definitely the only instance of Everything running or ev...

Re: Keep offline volumes in the index

Hmm I think I've hit an issue different from that limitation. This has happened to me twice now on 672b: When I disconnect a drive, Everything turns empty (0 objects) until I close and restart it, then it rebuilds the database. That was with keep_missing_volumes=1, but after reloading Everything and...

Re: Keep offline volumes in the index

A great feature I've been waiting for. Is it tied strictly to volume letter? Curious to know under what conditions an index may be lost to a similarly named volume of another drive.

Re: DO SOMETHING AGAINST THE SPAMBOTS!

Is there no captcha? I guess it doesn't matter as much right now since void is on hiatus again, but it makes the project look totally dead when a forum is so utterly dominated by spambots.

Re: Things to do

The more recent posts in this thread are testament to how much work void put in since his glorious return from project dormancy. He hasn't posted in a while, but has viewed the forum recently at least. I couldn't really blame him for taking another break if that is indeed what he is doing. I'm still...

For what it's worth, I haven't encountered the dialog again since posting this thread (still on the same version). I was able to get rid of it the first two times by completely exiting Everything.

Re: Drives being woken from sleep on closing everything wind

This isn't exactly the fix you're looking for, but I would consider disabling sleep mode for idle drives as the spin-up/spin-down and cool-to-hot-and-cool-again cycles likely cause more wear and tear than keeping them running--unless you're more concerned about noise and/or heat than longevity.

"Cancel query?"

This has so far only happened with the latest x64 beta from June 25. I keep Everything running at all times in the tray. I've had two episodes where whenever I bring up the window with either my global hotkey or by clicking the tray icon, I'm immediately met with a popup that says "Cancel curre...

Indexing offline drives and optical media

First, let me thank David for coming back to continue development of Everything. It's one of my favorite applications and it made my week when I realized only recently its development had begun again. I use Everything for searching local disks, and another wonderful freeware program called Cathy for...
