Well, not quite gone. The sort time appears to be watched, and when everything thinks it't too long, the message occurs again.
Tried this when sorting all pictures (filter) by System.VolumeId, which is not indexed here. The sort is very slow.

[BUG] Sorting causes Everything to stop responding (on SHA-256 Column)
I have my Pics options set such that they are indexed via SHA-256. when sorting this column (and likewise, when searching for duplicate SHA-256) sorting starts, but after some time, the message box asking if the sort should be aborted pops up. Entering Wait resumes sort (as does X-ing the message), ...

Re: Rename leaves old name in result list, file renamed correctly
OK, I did as advised. Since I had deleted the Offline volumes on the system booted from SM2-980-C(C:), I used the dual booted SSD850-b(C:). Indeed, the volume names of the SM2-980-C drives do differ: \\?\Volume{81} SM2-980-C(B:)(Offline) \\?\Volume{dc} SM2-980-C(B:) Which explains the described beha...

Rename leaves old name in result list, file renamed correctly
1.5.0.1319a I'm using a filter named "renamies" to select files with names that need to be normalized by a subsequent rename operation. After the rename, some (not all!) items with the name prior to the rename are still showing, although the rename was done, so the file in the result list ...

Re: SHA-256 identical to that of the currently selected file
For me, re-indexing does not occur in normal activity once it has completed -- yes, it takes a long time at first (over 500000 Files, just jpg's) Several months ago, re-indexing also happened, but with the more current 1.5a versions it does not. I have found Property Indexing (currently only using MD5:) extremely useful. In fact, I am using it extensively on some 200000 picture files. Here, the indexing takes a while, but that's OK. When I added *.mp4 to the "only Files", the indexing is taking longer than 3 days. :geek: because t...

The first of the suggested remedies worked: I dropped Administrator mode while staying with Service.
I have not tried to debug, because it now works.
Thank you
PS: why is an Administrator limited this way? The problem now is, that I can't store the .ini inside Program Files\Everything.

It's documented! But quite hidden.
Right click on the property column header (MD5) and select that function from the list.
Unfortunately that selection is easily lost when any search attributes are modified.

I just happily found that I can find duplicates, here for md5.
And by just a hunch, I tried excluding the file which have no md5, too, which I had not been able to find documented.
Works: !md5:null
just great!
But it does not work after looking for md5 duplicates

[Ver 1.5a is just amazing, incredible progress; no errors found yet] I do have a suggestion about dupe: It seems natural to me that when looking for a dupe, one would also sort the results by that column. Re: REsult list - content view
I think this would be quite useful.
I would also suggest to generaslize this: show explorer in the results window when a folder is selected, showing the files in selectable views.
It would save having to open an explorer window, e.g. when walking directories.

Re: How to update everything to the new version (BETA)?
The problem exists because Everything.Exe is running (e.g. as a task). Before replacing it, you must completely quit all, if need be, by task manager.
I have found that using just File/Exit (in the window or the task bar icon) may not close the system task (strangely, only sometimes).
