Thanks so much for the detailed info. I absolutely love the program, and it should become a staple in all PCs. It's better than what the multi-billion dollar company of Microsoft could come up with. Maybe they should cut you a check to use this in Win7

Downside of no "run in background"?
What's the downside of unchecking "run in background"? If it's unchecked, if I create a new file, open Everything, and search for it, it still finds it immediately.

My thoughts exactly. Shift-Enter should make the search window stay, and that's just like the Google Toolbar where shift-enter opens the result in a new window.
